AMBIENT DIMMING
Ambient Dimming Technology
DIMMABLE IS NOT JUST DIMMABLE
SEGULA achieved a breakthrough in the LED lighting market for the first time in the 2016 season – with what is known as Ambient Dimming Technology. An LED light source was developed that behaves almost 100% identically to the original incandescent bulbs. During the dimming process, not only does the light intensity change, but the color of light changes at the same time! A major revolution in the market, because that is what everyone is striving for: to bring back the feel of the ‘good old incandescent bulbs’!
THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND AMBIENT DIMMING
The sophisticated technology behind it works as follows:
An Ambient Dimming LED light source contains two different types of filament. One with a color temperature of 1800 Kelvin or higher, and a second with a temperature of 3000 Kelvin. When undimmed and at full lumen output, this gives a color of light of approximately 2900 Kelvin. When we dim the LED light source downwards, the highlight comes to the fore. Two separate circuits ensure that only the filament with 3000 K continuously decreases in brightness. This brings the warmer filament strips to the fore. The color temperature thus drops very evenly down to a minimum of 1800 K.
The clever arrangement of the filaments also creates the effect of a light point that gets smaller and smaller. Just like we know from incandescent bulbs!
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT
The technology has been continuously improved and developed, culminating in 2019 with the launch of the first Ambient Dimming LED featuring the patented Soft Filament Plus. This brings us closer to the look of incandescent bulbs.
The range of finishes and shapes now available leaves nothing to be desired. From large globes and classic incandescent bulbs to slim tubes. Technology and aesthetics combine to create a compelling package!
